Improving the appearance of my garden in winter

I have a garden that is very water efficient, so it looks great in the warmer months, but it can become a little overgrown and wild in the colder months. I might not spend as much time out there in winter, but I still like it to look good. I have been working on the garden design to help it look good all year round, and I have found that with the right plant selection and preparation, the garden can look great throughout the year. This blog has tips for other homeowners who are looking to improve the appearance of their garden when the weather gets wet.

Kitchen Renovations: Inexpensive Ways to Spruce Up The Space

by Paul Harrison

Choosing to refurbish your kitchen does not have to clean out your bank account. In some instances, opting for minor changes around the kitchen can have a dramatic effect on the overall aesthetic of the kitchen. Moreover, you do not have to engage in all the renovations in one go. Focusing on one area at a time for a period of a few months could also be much cheaper than embarking on a complete renovation at once. Below are some inexpensive ways that you could spruce up your kitchen.

Change the look of your kitchen countertops

Your kitchen countertops are exposed to heavy usage for the duration of their lifetime. This is why it should not be surprising that they would be the first aspect of your kitchen that would start looking worse for wear. Instead of choosing to completely replace the countertops, you could opt to change their look by installing new materials over your current countertops. One affordable material that you could consider is laminate.

These sheets can be found at any hardware store and come in an assortment of colours and patterns. Thus, you can be assured you will find laminate sheets that will complement the current décor of your kitchen. Moreover, the laminate sheets are also easy to install, which would translate into cheap labour costs. Other materials you could consider installing over your current countertops include vinyl, metallic sheets and more.

Change the hardware of the cabinetry

Another easy but effective way to update the appearance of your kitchen without having to resort to extensive refurbishing is by concentrating on the hardware of your kitchen. The handles and drawer pulls in your kitchen are used on a frequent basis. This constant traffic will make them start fading and acquire superficial damages much faster than the cabinetry itself. There is a myriad of design options that you could choose when contemplating hardware as they come in varying sizes, shapes and colours.

One thing to note is to bear in mind the current theme of your kitchen when selecting the hardware. For example, if you have a modern kitchen, opt for metallic hues such as chrome for your cabinetry to complement your overall aesthetic. Another thing to keep in mind when changing the hardware would be the hinges on the cabinetry. If these hinges are exposed, chances are they have also started showing signs of disrepair. Therefore, shop for hinges that will match the hardware that you choose.

Talk with a kitchen remodeling contractor if you have specific questions about updating your kitchen.
