Improving the appearance of my garden in winter

I have a garden that is very water efficient, so it looks great in the warmer months, but it can become a little overgrown and wild in the colder months. I might not spend as much time out there in winter, but I still like it to look good. I have been working on the garden design to help it look good all year round, and I have found that with the right plant selection and preparation, the garden can look great throughout the year. This blog has tips for other homeowners who are looking to improve the appearance of their garden when the weather gets wet.

3 Key Remodelling Features For Your Nordic Style Bathroom

by Paul Harrison

Nordic style is an increasingly popular choice in interior design. It's easy to see why; Nordic style provides a light, modern, and classically elegant look in your home. If you're planning to remodel your bathroom, then you may be considering a Nordic style design. Here are three key features which are essential for successfully achieving an authentic and beautiful bathroom finish.

1. Timber look tiles

One of the primary components of Nordic style is the use of pale and slightly distressed timber for the floors. Timber is often used on walls and on fixtures as well. Using natural timber in your bathroom might not sound appealing, perhaps due to budget constraints or concerns about the functionality of timber in a room with so much water exposure.

Fortunately, you can get the same effect by using timber look tiles instead of real timber. Timber look tiles are increasingly popular in bathrooms because they offer the practicality of tiles along with the natural beauty of wood. They come in a wide array of sizes, textures, and colours. Opt for a large, light coloured tile with a low-sheen finish to successfully recreate the Nordic timber style.

2. A limited palate

One of the most appealing features of Nordic style is the serene and harmonious feel that it provides. Using a limited palette for all of your design features is a vital part of attaining the desired look. Using too many colours will detract from the purity of line and contrast that is intrinsic to Nordic design.

Although brighter colours are sometimes used, a more muted, neutral palette is most common. The pale colour of your timber look tiles can be paired with white, black, or one of the many varieties of grey. Try to stick to a palette of no more than three shades, and use these shades for the décor, fittings, and accessories.

3. No-fuss finishings

Another core design element of Nordic style is the use of clean lines to create a clutter-free space. Every feature of the bathroom should have a function and should embrace the simple yet striking Nordic style.

Use clever storage ideas, such as built-in cabinets behind the vanity mirror, to ensure that surfaces remain clutter-free. Use frameless shower screens to minimise breaks in the line of sight through the room. Keep decorative items to a minimum and make sure that any you do include embrace the principles of Nordic design, with sharp lines, a high-quality finish, and elegant simplicity.

Nordic style is a wonderful choice for creating a calm, stylish, and elegant bathroom. Because of its timeless qualities, it won't date as rapidly as other modern bathroom styles and will look beautiful for many years to come.
