Improving the appearance of my garden in winter

I have a garden that is very water efficient, so it looks great in the warmer months, but it can become a little overgrown and wild in the colder months. I might not spend as much time out there in winter, but I still like it to look good. I have been working on the garden design to help it look good all year round, and I have found that with the right plant selection and preparation, the garden can look great throughout the year. This blog has tips for other homeowners who are looking to improve the appearance of their garden when the weather gets wet.

4 Signs You Need to Replace Windows in your Home.

by Paul Harrison

The windows play an essential role in keeping you and your loved ones warm and dry. They also allow fresh air and sunlight to enter your home. However, windows can become compromised and need replacement. This article details four signs you need to replace a window in your home. Read on to find out more!

1. Condensation or frost on the inside of the window

When it's cold outside, you may find condensation or frost on the inside of your window. In some homes, this happens all year round. Therefore, if your windows are constantly foggy or sweaty, you need to have them replaced as soon as possible. Once moisture starts entering your house through a window, it can signify a damaged or poorly installed fitting that needs replacing. Unfortunately, this will only worsen over time and cause significant damage to your home and belongings.

2. Windows that are difficult to open or close

Issues with opening and closing are common for older windows. Over time, the window's mechanism becomes worn out because of dirt getting in or simply age. A sure sign that you need to replace your window is if they are hard to open or close. This will make it more difficult for you to ventilate your house, which can lead to problems such as mould. If it's difficult to lock your windows, make sure you repair them as soon as possible. If the problem with your window gets worse, intruders may be able to break in and enter your home without issue. This is a hazardous situation that needs remedying as soon as possible.

3. Window frames are rotting or peeling

If the frame of your windows is either rotted, peeling or otherwise damaged, it might be time to replace them. Unfortunately, once they're in this condition, it is unlikely you can do anything to repair them, and they'll continue deteriorating until entirely unusable.

4. Damaged glass within the window

If the glass has visible cracks, be sure to replace it. If you ignore these cracks, they can spider-web across the window and turn into a big hole that will ruin your entire window. A contractor should be able to install a new pane of glass relatively quickly.

Contact a window replacement company today if you want to find out more. A member of the team will be happy to provide further help and advice about this subject.
